Semrush AI Visibility Alternatives: Choose a Tool and Baseline

Choose a Semrush AI visibility alternative by starting with the evidence your team must collect, not with a vendor score. Identify the AI surfaces and markets you need to observe, the response detail analysts must retain, the reporting or export route your team can operate, and the person responsible for acting on the findings.

AI visibility means observed brand mentions, citations, and answer context in specified AI responses. It is different from a conventional search ranking, and neither a citation nor a visibility score proves a website visit or sale. This guide reflects official vendor documentation reviewed on October 11, 2026. Prices, quotas, packaging, and supported surfaces are a dated snapshot and should be confirmed before purchase.

The comparison below is designed for SEO, marketing operations, content, demand generation, and RevOps teams. It also includes a practical measurement model for preserving prompt observations, citations, aggregates, and CRM referral evidence as separate records.

How to choose a Semrush AI visibility alternative

Use four questions in order:

  1. Which surfaces and markets matter? Name the answer engines, search surfaces, languages, locations, and model variants that affect your buyers.
  2. What evidence must be inspected? Decide whether aggregate visibility is enough or whether analysts need prompt-level answers, citation URLs, sentiment evidence, and timestamps.
  3. How will results reach the team? Check exports, dashboards, scheduled reports, API access, permissions, retention, and the effort required to maintain them.
  4. Who will act on the findings? Assign ownership for prompt governance, collection failures, interpretation, content changes, and any CRM association.

A comparison is meaningful only when the measurement conditions are known: exact prompt set and version, engine or surface, model variant where available, language, location, collection method, and aggregation period. Two tools can both advertise “ChatGPT tracking” while collecting different response types or using different denominators. Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode should also be treated as distinct surfaces.

Decision point

A cited answer, a tracked prompt observation, and an AI-referred website visit are different evidence records. Choose the tool around the record your team needs, then keep the other evidence types separate rather than treating them as interchangeable.

Compare Semrush and five alternatives by operating fit

Semrush does not present one universal AI coverage list. Its Visibility Overview documents Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, and ChatGPT, while Prompt Tracking documents ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, and Gemini. Brand Performance has a different documented scope. The AI Visibility Toolkit is listed at $99 per month with one domain, 25 tracked prompts, 300 daily AI-analysis queries, 1,000 daily Prompt Research queries, and 10 daily CSV exports. Semrush’s separate AI pricing page also lists a $99-per-month Base plan. Reconcile the product names, quotas, and entitlements before buying.

The table is a shortlist, not a ranking. Documented scope summarizes public vendor descriptions and does not guarantee that every surface, export, or metric is available in every plan.

Tool Documented scope Price snapshot Operating fit and procurement check
Semrush Coverage varies by report. Documented areas include prompt tracking, citations, brand performance, competitor research, and visibility reporting across different AI surfaces. Toolkit listed at $99/month with stated quotas. Useful when SEO reporting already runs in Semrush. Confirm the specific report’s surfaces, prompt and domain limits, retention, and whether CSV export supports the workflow.
HubSpot AEO ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini tracking with prompt-level responses, citations, sentiment, competitor share of voice, and recommendations. $50/month after a 28-day trial, or $45/month equivalent billed annually; 25 prompts listed. Worth evaluating when HubSpot is already central to marketing operations. Confirm subscription entitlements and do not assume citation observations map automatically to CRM revenue.
LLM Pulse The vendor states that each prompt runs across five models and lists citation analysis, sentiment, share of voice, query fan-out, content recommendations, and GEO Writer capabilities. Starts at €49/month for 50 prompts. Consider for dedicated multi-model analysis and agency-oriented reporting. Request the current model and surface matrix, raw-response access, export scope, API terms, and plan limits.
BrightEdge AI Catalyst Enterprise AI visibility, competitor analysis, sentiment, and recommendations across vendor-documented AI surfaces including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI surfaces, and Gemini. Public self-serve price not verified. Consider when enterprise SEO operations are already established. Request pricing, collection method, supported markets, implementation effort, and data-access details.
Authoritas Vendor-stated coverage includes multiple assistants and search surfaces, with entity and competitor visibility, citations, segmentation, alerts, exports, and BI connections. Public price not verified. Consider when broad surface coverage and citation reporting matter. Verify interface crawling versus API collection, plan availability, geography, API schema, and repeated-citation rules.
Advanced Web Ranking AI visibility metrics, citations, mentions, share of voice, and historical reporting alongside conventional rank tracking. Pro listed at $139/month for the broader platform, not an AI-only tier. Consider when AI and traditional rank tracking belong in one workflow. Verify whether the Agency-level API exposes the AI fields required by reporting or CRM processes.

HubSpot’s AEO documentation identifies ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini monitoring, including prompt responses, citations, sentiment, and share of voice. HubSpot also states that enterprise-grade AEO features are included in Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise, but the exact entitlement should be checked in the buyer’s subscription catalog. Its AI Search Grader is a one-time diagnostic across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini, not ongoing monitoring or a trend baseline.

LLM Pulse confirms the five-model claim but does not publish a stable, detailed engine-by-engine matrix in the reviewed material. BrightEdge positions AI Catalyst as an enterprise offering without verified public self-serve pricing. Authoritas publicly describes broad coverage and exports, while plan-level availability and API specifications remain unverified. AWR’s metric definitions are vendor-specific, and its pricing page confirms API access on Agency plans or higher without proving that every AI-specific field is exposed through that API. Review the vendors’ LLM Pulse pricing, LLM Pulse FAQ, BrightEdge AI Catalyst, Authoritas overview, and AWR pricing during procurement.

SEO-suite extension

Shared reporting workflow

Evaluate this route when rankings, technical SEO, competitors, and AI visibility should appear in one operating rhythm. Confirm that the reports expose prompt and citation detail rather than only a summary score.

Dedicated visibility platform

Response-level analysis

Evaluate this route when multi-model observations, citation detail, or separate visibility reporting are priorities. Confirm collection, retention, permissions, and export behavior before building downstream processes.

Before a trial or contract, request the current engine and model matrix, collection method, prompt and domain quotas, refresh schedule, raw-response availability, historical retention, export or API scope, authentication requirements, and rate limits. An export is a reporting path, not necessarily a live integration.

Choose metrics that describe the same thing

Use explicit data grains. This prevents a response-level event from being confused with a period summary or a CRM attribution event.

  • Prompt run: one response for a prompt version, engine or model variant, locale, location, and timestamp. Record whether it was captured, unavailable, or failed during collection.
  • Citation: one source occurrence within a specific response. Preserve the raw URL and any supplied position, rank, citation type, or visible-versus-expanded status.
  • Brand mention: one brand or entity observation in a response, with sentiment attached to the supporting evidence.
  • Visibility aggregate: a period calculation across a named prompt set, competitor set, engine scope, and time window. Share of voice belongs here, not on one response.
  • CRM evidence: a recognized referral, self-reported influence event, or other auditable interaction associated with a CRM record. It is not a citation record.

Vendors use different definitions and counting rules for visibility, citations, sentiment, and share of voice. Compare trends within one method unless the denominator, weighting, collection approach, and aggregation period are documented. Do not compare AWR, Semrush, HubSpot, or another vendor’s score as if the values had a shared denominator.

The following is an illustrative observation record, not a vendor export schema. The row grain is one completed or attempted prompt run.

{
  "observation_id": "obs_20261011_001",
  "source_tool": "illustrative_vendor",
  "account_id": "acct_123",

  "raw_response_reference": "vendor_reference_or_permitted_storage_pointer"
}

Store citations in separate rows related to the observation. A proposed citation key is observation_id + normalized_url + citation_position + citation_context_hash. Retain the raw URL because normalization can remove audit information, and confirm how each vendor counts repeated citations to the same URL.

For recurring imports, a proposed observation uniqueness key is source_tool + account_id + prompt_version_id + engine + model_variant + locale + location + run_timestamp. This is a design recommendation, not a vendor schema. Use a database-enforced unique constraint and transactional upsert where supported. A lookup-then-insert check alone is not safe when concurrent workers process the same export. Keep correction or supersession records rather than destructively replacing the original observation.

Run a comparable pilot before committing

Build a stable set of buyer questions and competitor entities. Preserve the exact prompt text, version, language, location, target surface, and collection method. Several weeks may be a practical starting window for repeated observations, but four to eight weeks is not a universal standard. The appropriate period depends on the decision, run frequency, and amount of usable evidence.

01Define the testSEO or marketing operations versions the buyer-question set, competitor entities, surfaces, markets, and required fields. Output: an approved prompt-set version and coverage specification.
02Capture a baselineRun the same prompts through shortlisted tools where possible. Save timestamps, surface details, responses or permitted references, citations, and collection status. Treat a one-time grader as a diagnostic, not a trend baseline.
03Repeat observationsCollect independent runs without overwriting earlier records. Store the prompt version, engine or model, location, timestamp, and response status for each run. A failed or unavailable response is missing evidence, not zero visibility.
04Review evidence and coverageThe operations owner checks missing metadata, failed collections, prompt revisions, citation availability, and denominator changes. Compare coverage, response inspection, citation detail, export stability, and reporting effort.
05Apply the purchase gateBefore the pilot, set pass conditions such as required surface coverage, inspectable citations, usable exports, sufficient successful runs, and a named owner. Buy, revise the prompt set, or investigate collection gaps based on those conditions.

Use deterministic rules for required fields, date and timezone normalization, URL parsing, domain extraction, engine values, prompt-version matching, and duplicate detection. AI classification can assist with ambiguous sentiment or entity matching, but it should not invent a missing model, location, timestamp, or citation. Send uncertain entity matches, high-impact negative sentiment, and proposed CRM write-backs to human review.

Keep citations and CRM attribution as separate evidence

There are three distinct cases:

  • An AI answer cites a page but nobody clicks. This is a citation observation.
  • A visitor arrives from an AI platform and the visit is recognized as an AI referral. This is a referral event.
  • A person says AI influenced the decision without a recorded referral. This is self-reported influence.

HubSpot documents an AI Referrals traffic category for recognized platforms. Its traffic-source properties can show original or latest source information and, where available, platform and campaign details. That indicates a recognized visit with referral data; it does not prove that a particular tracked prompt caused the visit, that the visitor saw a citation, or that the citation generated revenue.

HubSpot’s AEO documentation describes CRM-informed prompt suggestions and AEO reporting. The reviewed documentation does not establish automatic mapping of every citation observation to a contact, company, deal, campaign, or revenue amount. The HubSpot Connector documentation describes access to AEO information through connected ChatGPT or Claude assistants with approval and permissions. It is not a general public AEO API specification.

For external platforms, confirm file formats, stable IDs, API scope, authentication, permissions, rate limits, and retention before designing a write-back. If the source supplies no stable event ID, generate one only from the complete documented observation grain. Preserve the vendor, source URL, prompt ID, timestamp, attribution method, and evidence reference. Do not overwrite an original-source CRM property with weaker inferred evidence. CRM systems consulting can help define ownership and data processes; it is not a claim of a prebuilt AI visibility connector. For HubSpot implementation context, see HubSpot systems support.

A practical decision checklist

Confirm before approval
  • Can the vendor identify the exact surfaces, model variants, languages, locations, and collection method in the proposed plan?
  • Can analysts inspect responses and citation URLs, or only aggregate scores?
  • Are prompt, domain, refresh, export, and historical-retention limits documented for the plan?
  • Does the API or export expose the AI-specific fields required by reporting, and is it more than a scheduled CSV?
  • Can the team distinguish captured responses, unavailable answers, collection failures, citations, referrals, and self-reported influence?
  • Is one owner accountable for prompt governance, collection exceptions, interpretation, content action, and any CRM write-back?

Choose the least complex platform that supplies the observations you need and a reporting path your team can maintain. Add custom data handling only after confirming the source fields, access method, permissions, and attribution rule. A trustworthy baseline is not the largest score or the widest feature list. It is a repeatable record of what was observed, where it was observed, and what the team can defensibly do next.
