Master Favorites in ClickUp

Master Favorites in ClickUp

Favorites in ClickUp let you pin your most important views, Docs, Whiteboards, Dashboards, and tasks so you can access them in a single click from anywhere in your Workspace.

This guide explains how Favorites work, how to add and organize them, and how to manage permissions so your team sees exactly what they need.

What are Favorites in ClickUp?

Favorites are shortcuts to your most-used items in ClickUp. They appear in the left sidebar as a dedicated section that stays visible while you navigate through different Spaces, Folders, and Lists.

You can favorite many types of items, including:

  • Tasks
  • Views such as List, Board, Calendar, and Gantt
  • Docs and Whiteboards
  • Dashboards
  • Goals and other high-value pages

Each Favorite is personal unless you deliberately share it with your team.

Where Favorites appear in ClickUp

The Favorites section lives in the left sidebar of ClickUp, just above your Spaces. You will see it on every page so you can jump into your top work items instantly.

Depending on what you have favorited, you may see:

  • Task Favorites: open the selected task in a task view.
  • View Favorites: open a specific view, such as a List or Board view, tied to a location.
  • Doc, Whiteboard, or Dashboard Favorites: open that page or asset directly.

Favorites are shown in the order you configure, and you can group them into custom sections.

How to add Favorites in ClickUp

You can add Favorites from almost anywhere in ClickUp. The exact steps differ slightly depending on the item you are saving.

Favorite a task in ClickUp

To favorite an individual task:

  1. Open the task you want to save.
  2. Look for the star icon near the task name.
  3. Click the star to add the task to your Favorites.

The star becomes filled, and the task appears in the Favorites section of the sidebar. Click the task name from Favorites any time to reopen it.

Favorite a view in ClickUp

You can Favorite views like List, Board, or Calendar to reach them quickly.

  1. Go to the Space, Folder, or List with the view you need.
  2. Open the desired view at the top of the page.
  3. Click the star icon on the view tab.

The view is now added as a Favorite. When you use the Favorite, ClickUp loads that exact view, including the location and type.

Favorite Docs, Whiteboards, and Dashboards

To Favorite Docs or Whiteboards:

  1. Open the Doc or Whiteboard.
  2. Find the star icon in the header bar.
  3. Click the star to add it to Favorites.

To Favorite a Dashboard:

  1. Open the Dashboard from the Dashboards area.
  2. Click the star icon near the Dashboard name.
  3. Confirm the Dashboard now appears in your Favorites list.

Organize Favorites in ClickUp

As you add more items, you will want to keep Favorites tidy and easy to scan. ClickUp gives you tools to reorder and group these shortcuts.

Reorder Favorites

To change the order of your Favorites:

  1. Hover over the Favorites section in the left sidebar.
  2. Grab the handle or drag icon next to a Favorite.
  3. Drag and drop the Favorite into a new position.

This order is unique to you and does not affect other members, even if you share Favorites with them.

Create custom Favorites sections in ClickUp

Sections help you categorize Favorites by project, client, or type of work.

  1. Hover over the Favorites heading in the sidebar.
  2. Click the option to create a new section (often a plus or “Add section” control).
  3. Name the section, such as “Today”, “This Week”, or a team name.
  4. Drag existing Favorites into the new section.

You can create multiple sections and rearrange them as your workflow changes.

Rename and remove Favorites

Sometimes you want to update a Favorite without changing the underlying item. You can usually rename the shortcut or remove it:

  1. Hover over a Favorite in the sidebar.
  2. Click the three-dot menu or context menu icon.
  3. Select the option to rename the Favorite or remove it from Favorites.

Removing a Favorite does not delete the task, view, or Doc; it simply removes the shortcut from the Favorites section.

Share Favorites with your team in ClickUp

By default, Favorites are private to your account in ClickUp. However, some types of Favorites can be shared so your team can quickly access the same important views or Dashboards.

When a Favorite is shareable, you can usually:

  • Open the Favorite.
  • Use a share or visibility control in the header or menu.
  • Select people, teams, or the entire Workspace to share with.

Team members must still have permission to access the underlying item. Sharing a Favorite does not override permissions on Spaces, Folders, Lists, or tasks.

Manage access and visibility for Favorites in ClickUp

Permissions for Favorites follow the permissions of the items they point to. If someone cannot access a Space, they cannot access a view from that Space even if the Favorite is visible.

Keep in mind:

  • If a task, view, or Doc is made private and a user loses access, their Favorite link to that item will stop working.
  • If an item is deleted, any Favorites pointing to it will be invalid until the item is restored.
  • Restoring a deleted task or view in ClickUp restores the functionality of any existing Favorites pointing to it.

Tips to get the most from ClickUp Favorites
